The apartment is located in the district Neukölln. Like the neighbouring Kreuzberg, Neukölln used to be on the edge of West Berlin while the city was divided. As Neukölln was known for its low rents it attracted many immigrants and thus got a special multicultural flair. After the reunification the district suddenly became more central and very popular among students and young people. The alternative subculture of Kreuzberg reached the north of Neukölln little by little. After Tempelhof Airport was closed, the area is no longer noisy.
